South Haven Public Schools Board of Education Unanimously Selects Ana Aleman-Putman as New Superintendent

South Haven, MI – [November 26, 2024] – After an extensive and thorough interview process, the South Haven Public Schools Board of Education has unanimously voted to appoint Ana Aleman-Putman as the district's next superintendent. The decision was made at last night’s board meeting and marks a historic moment as Ana becomes the first female superintendent in the history of South Haven Public Schools.

A proud graduate of South Haven, Ana expressed her excitement and commitment to returning home to serve the students, staff, and community that shaped her. She shared her thoughts on the appointment, saying, "I am truly honored to be chosen as superintendent of South Haven Public Schools. It is full circle for me as a graduate of SHPS. This community means a great deal to me, and I am eager to start meeting everyone and collaborating closely to advance our district's goals. I am committed to working hand-in-hand with all stakeholders to foster a thriving learning community. I am thrilled by the possibilities!"

Ana will officially step into her new role in January following successful contract negotiations with the board.

Board President Laura Bos shared her enthusiasm for the selection, stating, "We’re very excited to bring Ana Aleman-Putman to the district as our next superintendent. She brings a tremendous amount of experience and drive to the role, and her passion for our district and community shines through.” Bos continued, “In addition, it was nice to not only have a unanimous vote from the board, but to make a decision that aligned with the many people who listened to the interviews and shared their views."

The superintendent search drew 16 highly qualified applicants, and Ana emerged as the clear choice, impressing both the board and community members with her vision, expertise, and dedication to South Haven's future.

Ana will succeed Kevin Schooley, who served as South Haven’s superintendent for six years, leaving a legacy of leadership in the district.
